Christian Anthony, 58

Fashion designer managed local gallery

Christian Anthony, 58, of West Yarmouth and formerly of Provincetown, died on Aug. 6, the day before his 59th birthday. He was at Hillcrest Commons Health Care Facility in Pittsfield.

Mr. Anthony was born Aug. 7, 1949, as Daniel Christian Anthony Ropelewski. He was the son of Chester and Helen Parda Ropelewski. He graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City in 1971.
Before moving to West Yarmouth, he lived in Naples, Fla., and Provincetown.

He was a fashion designer and illustrator for Health Tex, Neiman Marcus and Lord & Taylor. In Provincetown, he worked as a manager of the Mumford Gallery. He was a lover of art, music and animals. He had many adoring friends. He had a loving soul, a magical voice, a wonderful sense of humor, a brilliant mind, and he was a truly unique individual.

He leaves two sisters, Donna Albano, of Pittsfield and Carol Ropelewski, of Boston; a brother-in-law, Michael Albano, of Pittsfield; a nephew, Daniel Albano, of Pittsfield; a niece, Lauren Albano, of California; two uncles, Bernard Ropelewski and Jack Harte, both of Pittsfield; an aunt, Irene Ropelewski, of Pittsfield, and many cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held on Aug. 9 at the Dwyer Funeral Home in Pittsfield. A memorial service will be held in Provincetown on Aug. 30, at 9 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod, P.O. Box 1522, Provincetown, MA 02657, attention Madeline Miller.
